Bacombe Hill Nature Reserve – Overview
Bacombe Hill is a nature reserve on the Chiltern Hills escarpment near Wendover, managed by the Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire Wildlife Trust (BBOWT). The site is described as an ancient chalk grassland landscape high above the Vale, with extensive views across Aylesbury Vale. Public footpaths cross the reserve, and walking up Bacombe Hill connects with routes leading to the monument on nearby Coombe Hill.
The reserve supports a variety of chalk grassland plants and wildlife, including orchids, wild thyme, and several butterfly species. The site also contains archaeological features such as Bronze Age burial mounds. Bacombe Hill is recognised for its ecological importance and is designated both as a Local Nature Reserve (LNR) and a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).
