College Lake nature reserve is like a little oasis of its own with a visitor centre serving drinks and snacks, and plenty of facilities including motorised buggies (book in advance). Entry is free and donations are welcomed. Much of the footpaths around the central lakes are surfaced and level. I’ve visited College Lake many times with my camera, capturing highlights such as the wildflower meadow in full bloom, and some of the larger birds that visit the reserve such as Canada Geese. There are a number of hides around the lakes which were once a quarry. Located outside of Tring, College Lake is nestled amongst some great places for walking. Nearby are the Tring reservoirs, The Grand Union Canal, and the Pitstone windmill. So there’s plenty to do outdoors around the area, from short walks and a coffee at the visitor centre, to walking all day, amongst a variety of landscapes.
