Aylesbury Old Town

St. Mary’s Square in Aylesbury — St. Mary’s Square in my opinion is one of the most characterful areas of Aylesbury. Go back in time by taking a walk around this historic part of town.

Kingsbury in the heart of Aylesbury is home to some historic buildings and maintains the character of the town.

Colourful buildings in the town centre of Aylesbury — These coloured buildings stand at the junction of Buckingham Street and Kingsbury.

Sunset over Castle Street, Aylesbury — Sunset over the junction of Castle Street and Parsons Fee in Aylesbury old town.

Almshouses overlooking St Mary's — These very old houses have looked out onto St. Mary’s Church for over 200 years.

Wildlife, Water, and a 14th century church

Swans at Watermead in January — Beautiful swans stand on a small wall at the flooded edge of the largest of Watermead’s lakes, this was taken in early January.

Hulcott church near Aylesbury — The sleepy village of Hulcott is only a short walk from Aylesbury and it is the location of this picturesque church that dates back to the 14th century.

St Osyth's Well, Bierton, near Aylesbury — On a beautiful springtime evening I took this shot at St. Osyth’s Well in Bierton, this is lovely peaceful spot with views all the way across to Wendover woods.

Startops reservoir at Marsworth near Aylesbury — At the end of the Aylesbury arm of the canal is the splendid Startops Reservoir at Marsworth this is perfect for a wander on a warm day and has pubs and College Lake close by. I took this sunset photo at the end of a chilly February afternoon.

Cute Ducklings — May is always a time of new arrivals around Aylesbury Vale’s Waterways and lake’s as seen here with these 2 sleepyhead cute ducklings.

Bierton, Brill, Cublington, Chiltern Hills, and Watermead

Great Lane / Grendon Hill, Bierton — Where Great Lane becomes Grendon Hill on the way out of Bierton. I took this picture on a crisp autumnal afternoon just as the leaves were changing colour.

Brill Windmill near Aylesbury — Brill is one of my favourite villages, I love to visit the windmill here and see the wonderful views from this high up location.

This is St. Nicholas Church in Cublington, taken during lockdown this village was even quieter than normal and this scene summed up the day perfectly

Winter in the Chilterns is magical as illustrated here in this hilltop scene near Pitstone.

Pair of Swans at Watermead — Watermead Lake is home to over 70 swans, here some stopped to pose for this shot close to the bandstand.

Walking highlights around Aylesbury

Aylesbury Arm of The Grand Union Canal — The Aylesbury section of the canal maintains is wildlife and always feels ‘away from it all’ and secluded even as it approaches its end point in the centre of town.

The Historic village of Bierton lies just to the northeast side of Aylesbury and is home to beautiful walks and countryside. It has an amazing footpath network to enjoy and explore.

Stone bridge, Eythrope, near Aylesbury — Eythrope near Stone is a lovely rural location, I took this photo of its stone bridge on a wonderfully fresh November afternoon.

Bierton / Weedon walk — I regularly walk this path between Bierton and Weedon, this section is constantly changing with the seasons

Woodlands, Waterways, and Britain's oldest Windmill

Wendover Woods — Beautiful Buckinghamshire woodland at Wendover. Explore here and see the seasons changing.

Standing at the foot of the Chilterns is Pitstone Windmill. This Windmill is thought to be the oldest in the British Isles.

Narrowboat or Barge, on the Aylesbury Arm — A view of a barge along the Grand Union Canal. I took this one from a bridge close to Kingsbrook looking towards Broughton Crossing.

Bluebells at Ivinghoe — See the bluebells and rare white bluebells deep in the woods at Ivinghoe.

A mirror like River Thame in Ickford, it is here that Oxfordshire meets Buckinghamshire

Damon Mitchell - Bio

During 2020 whilst on furlough from work I found myself taking long walks with my son all around Buckinghamshire and beyond, sometimes up to 30 miles a day.

I saw villages and areas that I never knew existed although I have lived in Aylesbury for 32 years. I thought this was a good time to rekindle an old hobby of mine, taking photographs. I started putting them online and people appeared to like what I was doing, I have since produced and sold postcards and had a photo on the front cover of a local magazine. Since returning to work I have kept this hobby going and I plan to get more involved as I’m enjoying it more than ever.
